Parents' Association

The Parents’ Association wish to advise that our committee is working on behalf of all parents of children in the College.

The association –
  1. Works in partnership with the principal, staff and the board of management to build effective partnership between the home and school.
  2. Aims to support and empower parents to be active in the best interests of their children’s educational lives.
  3. Partnership between the home and school is important because with positive and active partnership the child gets the best that secondary education can offer.

All Parents should feel free to contact the Parents’ Association with any issues, concerns or suggestions. Please put your requests in writing and address it to St. Mel’s Parents Association and drop it into the school.

How the Committee Operates

The Committee was re-commenced in September 2013 after a period of relative inactivity. It generally meets two or three times in each of the first and second terms, and usually once in the last term. Meetings are scheduled for 1 hour to ensure maximum efficiency, with the agenda circulated in advance. In recent years members have generally been nominated on the night of the 1st year introduction in early October.

It is very important to note that the Association is not a vehicle by which Parents may raise issues in relation to individual teachers. Rather it is a medium to discuss matters of common interest to all parents in the course of their children’s day to day lives in the School. For information – if you have an issue with a teacher you should make an appointment directly with the school.

What is the Role of the Parents’ Association?

The Parents’ Association is the structure through which parents in a school can work together for the best possible education for their children and the Committee is working on behalf of all parents of children in the College. The association:
