Congratulations to Michael Gacquin who represented St. Mel's in the All Ireland Schools Cross Country Championships in Malusk Playing Fields in Belfast last Saturday. Michael competed in the senior boys category running a distance 6.5 km in 23 minutes on a challenging course. Well done to Michael on a fantastic run and for reaching the All-Irelands finals. TY Strength & Conditioning
Our TY students have recently begun a Strength & Conditioning block with David Harrington from Midlands S&C in Longford Town, and it has been a fantastic learning experience so far.
Across the first two sessions, the boys have focused on the fundamentals of the squat and how to properly perform the bench press, learning the correct technique and understanding the importance of good form. Safety has also been a major focus, with students learning the importance of correct spotting and supporting their training partners during lifts.
David has been extremely thorough with his explanations and has been excellent with the students, making sure everyone understands the key points behind each movement.
A great learning opportunity for the group, as Strength & Conditioning plays such a pivotal role in improving performance across all team and individual sports. Looking forward to more sessions ahead!

TY Music Generation Module!
Transition Year students are truly thriving in their Music Generation module! So far, they’ve mastered playing the ukulele and are now diving into audio technology to compose backing tracks for the original lyrics they've crafted over the past few weeks.
A heartfelt thank you to Laura and Music Generation Longford Music Generation Ireland for inspiring and unleashing their creativity. We can’t wait to see what they produce next!
Keep up the great work, everyone!
Student Enterprise County Final
Congratulations to all the TY students who participated in the Student Enterprise County Final hosted by Longford County Council in the Longford Arms today.
Special mention two DJ Boards who won the Innovation award on the day. This team consisted of Diarmuid and Jonah, who created Pizza/ Chopping and Cheese Boards.
Another mention to J&N Logs who were awarded “Best Report”. Jay and Nathan submitted a detailed report on the process and development of their Christmas Logs.
Tadhg, Adam, Donncha and Oisin made up our final team. Who created a fantastic product ‘TADO Gloves’. The boys were unfortunate to miss out on a prize on the day, but I have no doubt we will see them making millions in the future.
This demonstrates the hard work and dedicated shown by all participants over the past year.
Fishing Club
Yesterday, our St. Mel's College Fishing Club braved the elements as we ventured to Lough Rowan for a day of fishing. Despite challenging conditions, our dedicated lads persevered and successfully landed a few fish, practicing our catch and release approach.
A huge thank you to the Lough Rowan anglers for hosting us, and special shout-outs to Emmet and Mark from Camlin Anglers for their invaluable assistance. We also appreciate our senior students, Kyle and Ben, for their support throughout the day.
Lastly, a big thank you to Mr. Galvin and Mr. Lyng for facilitating this fantastic outing. Here's to more adventures ahead!
