Microsoft Workshop
St Mel's welcomed former student Aaron Moloney, now of Microsoft, back to the college today to give a workshop to our Coding Club as part of Microsoft's Month of Code initiative.
The workshop covered many areas including data analysis, pattern recognition and Artificial Intelligence, with students getting a chance to train their own AI machine learning tool to recognise different images. A fun, engaging morning was had by all who attended. Thanks again to Aaron for giving the workshop and for further inspiring the next generation of coders in St Mel's College.
Rugby Blitz
Our First & Second Year students were in Tullamore today for a Rugby Development Blitz. Lots of students are keen to get involved and improve their skills, and the school is working to raise participation and give more students the chance to enjoy rugby. Well done to all the students involved today! #RugbyDevelopment #SchoolRugby #Teamwork #Participation #SkillBuilding

Geography Field Trip
Field Study Success! Yesterday, our Leaving Cert Geography students conducted their local field study, which contributes 20% to their overall grade. Both groups demonstrated exceptional teamwork and dedication, making the day a resounding success. A special thank you to David Quinn for capturing some fantastic drone footage of the event, enhancing our experience and documentation of the study. Well done to everyone involved!
World Book Day
To celebrate world book day this week, Ms. Connell and Mr. Garvey’s 2nd year English class integrated well known stories with their current learning topic, newspaper articles. They had to work together to create newspaper headlines and articles for their chosen story and their classmates guessed what their chosen story was. Lots of future journalists and columnists in Mel’s.
