North Connacht Track and Field
Well done to all students who took part in the North Connacht Track and Field competition held in Sligo Atlantic Technological University yesterday. There was some brilliant performances on display with a number of students qualifing for the Connacht regional finals in TUS Athlone.
The day kicked off with a strong run from Rian McCaffrey and Oran Flanagan in the 3km, finishing 2nd and 8th respectively. Kelvin Adeosun set the bar in the senior high jump. Sean Greally (11.73 seconds) Emmanuel Mensah (11.64 seconds) were quick over the senior boys 100 meters. Dawid Zdybel and Smart Ogoh participated in the senior boys 200 meters, both boys finishing in 3rd place in their respective heats. Dawid Zdybel also competed in the 400 meter race finishing in 4th place. Elijah Ishola stormed to a 1st place finish in the intermediate 100 meter heat (12.45 seconds), finishing 3rd place overall.
Well done to all students who ran as part of our 4x100 meter relay teams. Our intermediate and senior boys teams progress to the regional finals.
Special mention to all our 1st year students who represented St. Mel's College for the first time on the track. A very enjoyable day was had by all.
Fishing Trip to Lanesboro
Our St. Mel's College fishing club fished in glorious weather on Friday last. Not ideal fishing weather but the lads persevered. They continue to hone their skills and develop their fishing knowledge. Some great fish were caught and as always a few got away. All released unharmed and the lads left the river bank spotless when they left. We hope to fit in another trip shortly. Well done all!
Emerald Park Trip Senior House & Willow Class
On Thursday, our Willow Class and Senior House students enjoyed a fantastic day at Emerald Park for their school tour.
