VEX robotics
Congrats to our VEX robotics team who finished their season by winning the VEX Longford competition held on Thursday in the Temperance hall. This season has seen huge progress, not just in robot design, but in the way these young men have learned to communicate and collaborate. Watching these lads grow into a real team, full of confidence, has been the highlight.

Leaving Certs Last Day
Celebrating Our Leaving Certs at St. Mel’s College!
Yesterday marked a bittersweet moment as our Leaving Cert students gathered for a memorable BBQ following the awards ceremony. It was a wonderful opportunity for the boys to connect with their teachers, share heartfelt goodbyes, and reflect on their time at St. Mel’s.
Amidst laughter and some quiet tears, they showcased the immense spirit and camaraderie that made them exceptional ambassadors for our school.
Well done, boys! Your kindness and dedication have truly shone through.
Leaving Cert Graduation Mass
Congratulations to all Leaving Cert students as they concluded their time here at St. Mel’s College during their graduation mass last night. We announced our Student of the Year nominees, Sean Ginty, Liam Maguire, and Conor Doherty, for their outstanding achievements and efforts throughout their time at St. Mel’s.
A special congratulations to Conor for being crowned the overall Student of the Year winner!
Well done to all the students who participated in the graduation mass—your hard work and dedication truly shone through. We are immensely proud of each and every one of you.

Awards Day 2026
Today, we celebrated the remarkable achievements of our students and staff at our annual awards ceremony, showcasing the incredible collaboration of sports and academics. A huge congratulations to all the students who received prestigious awards!
This year, we especially want to honor those students who will soon be graduating after completing their Leaving Cert. Among the highlights of the day was the nomination of three outstanding students for the Student of the Year award: Conor Doherty, Sean Ginty, and Liam Maguire. These talented boys were nominated by both staff and fellow students for their exceptional contributions. Stay tuned, as the winner of the coveted Mel Murtagh Cup will be announced tonight at the graduation mass. Well done, boys!
Additionally, we announced the winner of the Fr. Manning Medal, one of the most prestigious awards in St. Mel’s College history. Named after the legendary Fr. Manning, who led his teams to 11 Leinster titles and 1 All-Ireland championship in college football, this medal was awarded to Mark Cooney. Congratulations, Mark!
