First year football

The First Year Gaelic Season drew to a close last Tuesday afternoon in Pearse Park when the team lost the midlands final to Mullingar C B S. Mel’s just could not get going at all during the first half and that cost them dearly as they produced a mighty second half display to lose by just a couple of points.

Thankfully the last of the Leinster Council Blitz competitions took place just two days later on Thursday in Edgeworthstown and with the fabulous sunny weather that day, we all ended the season on a high! Next year here we come…

U14 Football

U 14 football concludes in the next week with the Longford Schools’ Final and victory in that game would set the team up nicely for U16 football kicking off in September.

The sunny weather these last few days has given everyone a lift coming into the summer months and it is a great time of year to start building up fitness again for the brighter days ahead. The courts and pitches have been buzzing with activity before during and after school these last few days and there is a great feel good factor to sport that lifts the spirit especially for those living with the pressure of state exams in the weeks ahead. So now is the time to give it a go, the season of ‘shorts and tees’ is just around the corner! ! !

Longford Rugby Club U16 Success

Paddy Dugan, Liam Harte, Jack Sorohan, Dylan Smith, Brian Hanly, Sean Mc Manus and Gerard Flynn were all members of the U16 panel from Longford Rugby Club who beat Navan in the Leinster League division 1 Final in Edenderry last week. As we write our notes the panel are preparing to secure a double as they are also in the Leinster Plate Final. Best of luck lads.
