Sport Update

It has been a wonderful year of football for our First year students with so many lads of all different abilities taking part in the various competitions throughout the year and the season drew to a close on Tuesday last in Clonguish with a very enjoyable Football Blitz for all the Longford schools. The weather was wet enough early on but none of the First Years really minded that much-it was either football in Clonguish or class in school so there was no contest there. Mels were very competitive in all their games and as with all of the trips away this year, the young men acquitted themselves with great honour both on and off the pitch and that is as important as anything if you pull on the Mels jersey. So once again well done to all First Years who participated throughout the year and special thanks to both Damien Sheridan for all his enjoyable sessions as well as Mel Flanagan  and Shane Carraigy for their  support throughout the season. Second year here we come!

Its been a mixed year for U14 football in Mel’s but it will be great to contest the Longford Schools’ Final this Tuesday May 12th in Pearse Park at 12.30 against Ballymahon Convent who have had a  wonderful year so far which means the Final itself should be a mighty contest for both squads. This match will be the last GAA game for any school team this year and it would be great to end off the year on a winning note with as much Junior house support as possible. The team itself has given tremendous commitment to the jersey over the last season and victory here would set up the players for the step up to U 16 in September…HERE WE GO MELS…HERE WE GO….! ! !
