Senior colleges Championship 2017-St Mel’s defeat Patrican Newbridge in Pearse Park

Well done to the senior team who won the 1st round of the Leinster Championsip v Patrican college Newbridge in Pearse Park on a final score of 1-12 to 0-12. the team played fast football in the first half and aided by the midfield dominance of Darragh o Brien and Padraig Joyce the forwards were getting a good supply of ball and when Cian dooner punched a goal late in the half the team went in to the break with a comfortable lead , 1-08 to 0-3.
The Kildare college were a different team after the break and narrowed the game to just 3 points nearing the final whistle. It was a nervous finish but blocks by Paddy Duggan and a great save from Eoin Mcguinness ensured the win and the large gathering of St Mel’s supporters exited Pearse Park in a happy mood.
The team now travel to Dublin to take on St Aidens of Whitehall in the next round.
