Cycle Against Suicide Ambassador Awards
St. Mel’s College was delighted to attended the Ambassador school awards in Kilmainham Museum of Modern Art last Friday. Ms Dempsey and Mr. Sheridan accompanied three of the members of the Cycle Against Suicide committee to accept this prestigious award for the second year running.
St. Mel’s Fishing Club Trip To Lanesborough
The St. Mel’s Fishing Club had a wonderful day fishing the famous hot water stretch in Lanesborough today. The weather was glorious and the stretch was full of fish! The lads suggested that we should do this every Monday!
TY Enterprise Kicks Off for 2016-2017
Many thanks to Sadie Wheatley for delivering an engaging workshop for the Student Enterprise Awards. Our TY students had a brainstorming session for the morning and we have some fantastic plans already. We look forward to seeing all of our Transition Years students innovative ideas.
Social Entrepreneur Talk
Many thanks to John O Shea for visiting St Mels last week. Former CEO of GOAL, John spoke about the importance of having a social conscience in today’s world. He spoke of those in the ‘forgotten world’ and urged TYs to think of thinking about social enterprise when considering a career. It was a very inspiring and motivational talk and we look forward to welcoming him back in the future.
Senior & Junior Rugby Success
Tremendous wins for both of our rugby teams today vs Moyne CS. The Juniors captained by Daithi Connolly won 29-12. The seniors captained by Darragh O’Connor won 48 -22. Shout out to Gerard Flynn who scored 7 tries in the senior match. Thanks to coach Steve Coy
Chess Club
Mr. Dolan has started a lunchtime chess club. It takes place each day in the school library (upstairs in new building). New members welcome!
