Longford Town Men’s Shed officially opens on St Mel’s College Campus

The Longford Towns Mens Shed was officially opened on the school grounds this week and a great crowd gathered for the occasion. The shed will operate out of St Marys which was built in the late 1940s to accomodate the Sisters of Mercy who helped the college at that time to operate the Boarding school. The building has not been used since the Boarding school closed in 2002 and the Men’s Shed have brought it back to life again and it now provides a meeting and workplace for the men of the town and surrounding areas.

Bishop Francis Duffy cut the ribbon on the day and the large crowd were treated to refreshments in the John Gearty Hall.
