Huge Sports Week in St Mel’s College

The week past and next week are huge weeks in the sporting life of the college. In basketball our 1st years were at home v Portlaoise CBS in the 1/4 final of the Midland League and they put together a brilliant performance to out score the visitors on a scoreline of 43 -21 and now qualify for the semi finals. The 2nd year team travelled to Newbridge to play Newbridge in the 1/4 finals and were defeated on a scoreline of 32-15. Thanks to our two PME student teachers Ms Murphy and Ms Sweeney  for all their work with the teams over the past few months.

Our U-14 hurling team had a great win over Marist College ,Athlone in the 1st round of the north leinster League. Matthew Flynn helped himself to 5-1 in a comprehensive win for Mr o Shea’s team.

The senior rugby team after their great win over St Pat’s Navan were awarded a walkover and will now play Ardee CS in the semi final. Thanks to Dylan Quinn and Steve Coy for their help with the team.

The Senior Football team were back on the pitch this week taking on Ballymahon Vocational Schools team in the semi final of the McGee Cup. They romped to a comfortable win on a scoreline of 8-10 to 0-19. Well done to Mr Quinn & Mr Cannon for their work with this team over the year.

Next week is a big one for Mr Clynes 1st Year Soccer team as they take on Marist College,Athlone in the final of the West Leinster League in Mullingar.. The teams met earlier in the season and it ended 1-1 so a close exciting game is in store.
