Green Schools Committee

The Green Schools Committee held their Cycle/Walk to School Day on Wednesday 10 April. The aim of this event was to raise awareness on Climate Change and to increase the number of students who cycle and walk to school to reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions. Students who cycled to school received three raffle tickets and students who walked to school received one raffle ticket. The event was a major success – the number of students who walked to school doubled from the previous survey earlier in the year. Later in the day, the Green Schools Committee held the raffle for the students who took part in the event. Many thanks to the following businesses who sponsored the event by giving raffle prizes to the Green Schools Committee:

  • The Camlin Barber
  • Denniston Cycles
  •  McDonald’s
  • Spirit Clothing

The school would also like to thank all students who participated in the event. Final thanks are given to Tiarnan McCusker from An Taisce Green Schools, Mr. Fay and the TY Green Schools Committee of Stephen O’Brien, Cole O’Connor, Gary Donnelly, Bobby Crillly and Máirtín Kenny, who spent a lot of time organizing the day and oversaw the running of the event. We hope that this is the first of many actions taken by the school to work towards maintaining a cleaner environment.

The Student Council were also acknowledging Eco Week with their daily Environmental Video clips which highlighted the need for the worlds population to protect the environment. Jacopo Lemmi gave a daily message over the school intercom to accompany the video. Well done to all involved.

They also planted trees to mark the week along the front avenue.
