Awards Day 2017

St Mel’s College as we celebrated student achievements in school and in the local community. Awards were given in the following areas: school attendance, prefects, sports, social awareness, the arts and enterprise to name but a few. Congratulations to all the student winners who received awards.

The prestigious Fr Manning Medal was won by Brian Harte. The student of the year Mel Murtagh Cup nominees were announced: Daire O’Muiri, Ronan Moffett & Sean Kenny.  Special guest was past pupil Ronan Mc Greevy who is a historical author and also a journalist with the Irish Times. A special presentation was made to Mr Jim Waldron who retires in June after almost 39 years teaching. He will be sorely missed by staff and students alike. His passion and enthusiasm for teaching English and History has influenced countless students over the years and principal Declan Rowley’s reference to Robin Williams character in Dead Poets Society was certainly most appropriate.
