Gael Linn Irish Debating Team qualify

St. Mel’s College Senior debating team had a very successful evening on Monday 3rd  December when they progressed to the next round of the Gael Linn Schools Irish debating competition.

The debate was held in Ballymahon Convent and the team of Barry O’Brien, Cian O’Nualláin and Liam Morgan qualified after debating against very difficult opposition from Ballymahon Convent, St. Finian’s, Mullingar and Árd Scoil Mhuire, Ballinasloe.

The theme of the debate was whether Ireland looks after its pensioners well and the lads successfully argued against this motion.

The next round will be in January 2019 and the lads will find out who the opposition is in a couple of week’s time.  Well done to the lads for their great effort and preparation and to all involved.
