1st Years are Leinster Soccer Champions

There was great celebrations in St Mel’s today when the 1st Year soccer team defeated Ardgillen CS Balbriggan in the Leinster Final on a scoreline of 7-3. The opening 10 mins were furious with both teams testing each other at both ends and after constant pressure Paddy Moran finished a neat movement to the net to lead 1-0 and minutes later the same player dispossessed a defender and rounded the keeper to make it 2-0 at half time. The team pushed on after the break and Ross Shields got the third and the game looked wrapped up.

Images of Liverpool/Barcelona came flooding to the supporters when lively winger Angel scored a brace to bring the game to 3-2 but the team finished strong with goals from Moran (2), Conor Flynn and a great team goal finished by Captain Kevin Baskett to run out very deserving winners on a scoreline of 7-3.

Its a remarkable achievement to bring an A soccer title to the school and there was great scenes when Captain Kevin Baskett was presented with the Cup.
