1st Year Hurlers join the Footballers in the Leinster Final

Well done to the 1st Year Hurlers who have qualified for the Leinster final with a great win over Salesian College ,Celbridge on a scoreline of 5-5 to 2-2. The group have trained consistently under the guidance of Mr Sheridan and Mr Garvey all year and they are now one step away from the trophy.

Pride of place goes to our first year hurling team who today defeated Salesian College to advance to the Div 4 Léinster final! In a game played in adverse weather conditions, St. Mel’s produced an exceptional 2nd half performance to defeat the Kildare side by a scoreline of 5-5 to 1-2.

This was a game that the lads have been looking forward to for the past few weeks, however it was Salesian College who got off to the better start, and went into the break with a four point lead. However this is a St. Mels team full of leaders and the lads were determined to leave everything out on the field in the 2nd half. The key turning point of the game came shortly after the restart, when Ali Iqbal powered through the Salesian defence to score an inspirational goal, and from here on in there was only going to be one winner.

The scores continued to come from the forwards and hardworking midfield pair, whilst priase must also go to the defence and goalkeeper who managed to keep the Kildare side scoreless in the 2nd half. This is a young team who have got hurling fans talking around the county, and they are now only one game away from making history. Mr. Garvey and Mr. Sheridan encourage all panel members to continue to train hard and make sure they have some difficult decisions to make in regards to team selection for the upcoming Léinster final. Well done lads, now bring home the silverware.
